There are only two ways to drive* to Virago Camp. (via Seattle)
We suggest you use Google Maps for precise directions.
General routes and helpful tips included below.
*If you are a pilot or know one, Forks has a small airport on the south side of town.
Traveling on the North/West Route:
From Seattle take a ferry (Bainbridge or Edmonds ferries), cross the Hood Canal Bridge, pass through Sequim, Port Angeles, around Lake Crescent, and through Forks. The Virago Camp is five miles south of Forks.
This route requires travel by ferry. Toll fees vary. Wait times in the summer can be hours long. The upside is the trip across the Salish Sea is beautiful and you might see an Orca pod.
Check scheduled departure times carefully, and expect heavy volume on weekends/seasonally. Arrive earlier than you think necessary and maybe you'll get to stretch your legs on the sandy beach before the long drive!
Traveling on the South/West Route:
From Seattle travel through Tacoma to Olympia and hang a right on Washington State Highway 101. Continue through Montesano, Aberdeen, past Lake Quinault, through Kalaloch, and on for another 30 minutes until you reach Virago Camp.
This route will take you roughly 4 hours but you won’t be stuck in a ferry line and the view going past Kalaloch is epic. If you have an audiobook or podcast we recommend downloading it before you leave on your road trip. Expect heavy traffic volumes in certain areas during regular commuting hours and weekends seasonally.
Traveling by private plane to the Forks Airport:
The airport is located 1 mile SW of Forks. Follow Hwy 101 South about 4 miles to 180 Smith Road, Forks, WA 98331.
