Virago Camp is 9 acres of majestic Olympic Peninsula forest lushness and open meadow. The campground is located 5 miles south of Forks, Washington, and is bordered on the north by the Bogachiel River, a favorite Steelhead fishing river. A classic swimming hole is tucked just underneath the 101 bridge at the end of the property and a communal fireplace welcomes guests to share a story while roasting marshmallows. Virago Camp is conveniently located on Highway 101 and is a perfect basecamp to explore the area from Ruby Beach to the Hoh Rainforest.
Virago Camp is the first step toward a larger dream of opening the Virago Retreat Center. The retreat center will feature up to 10 yurts and be available for retreats, meetings, family reunions, weddings, and more. Our hope is to make it a creative sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the city for folks to focus on their work: writing, song-crafting, photography, yoga practice, silent meditations, and more.
While we work on financing the BIG dream, we wanted to make this beautiful piece of land available for others to enjoy. A special “thank you” goes to my dad, Ray, who helped us find the property. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
A NOTE ON SUSTAINABILITY
It is important to us to grow the site as sustainably as possible. We are locally sourcing as many of our supplies and as much of the labor as possible. We will not use toxic chemicals to control vegetation and we’ll keep our building footprint as small as possible. We also plan to donate several weeks a year to local charities and organizations with missions aligned with our values which include children’s education, arts organizations, women’s support groups, and more.
I graduated from Forks High School in 1989 and I am proud to be able to bring a small bit of economic development to my home town. If you have ideas or comments please use the form on the Contact Us page. I'd love to hear from you.
